Treatment for alcohol abuse in Alberta Print E-mail
Drinking starts as a harmless activity which often tends to grow out of proportion and become a deadly habit. The vices of alcohol consumption are not unknown to anybody. Its far reaching effects have not spared those who were vulnerable enough to not stop it in time. Alberta is facing a similar problem with growing alcohol abuse issues surfacing like never before. What seems like an innocent beginning spreads rampantly in no time and you get addicted to it even without your own knowledge. People often believe that they can quit the habit at ease but it is never that easy. Even if they can compel themselves to stay away for a while, many of them relapse and get back to it, unable to control the urges. Those, for who drinking has become a necessity, must seek help before it’s too late.

Most people start drinking, thinking it to be a cure to their personal problems. Also, some people who take to drinking have mental health problems ranging from panic disorder, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder to depression. When two of these happen together, it is called a dual diagnosis. However this is not good news. Drinking enhances mental health issues to a higher degree. All mental health problems should be treated dutifully to stem their growth and during this period alcohol consumption may have to be prohibited as well.

The rising alcohol abuse trend makes us want to look closely at the reasons why such increment is taking place at all. Family trouble, incompatibility at socializing, sexual problems can all be causes of this or can also be resultants of alcoholism. These can be the causal agents and also can be the effects. Heavy persistent drinking does severe bodily damages to the nervous system, heart, liver and brain. It can heighten the occurrences of diseases like high blood pressure, stroke, gallstones, osteoporosis and even certain kinds of cancer.

The Alberta Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission (AADAC) helps people who want to control their addiction before it turned into a fatal addiction. It is anonymously conducted and offers services free of charge. An array of programs is structured to help with awareness and prevention of alcohol and other types of abuse. There is nothing terminal about this problem and can be remedied with proper help. Everyone is advised to help themselves first and not let this issue comes too close to you.
